A Roof for Reading: Protecting Childhood Learning Through Winter

Help us create a space where weather never decides whether a child gets to learn.

In Bonteheuwel, the BonteKids reading programme brings children together three times each week. They read aloud, listen to stories, practise new words and share a meal.

At present, sessions have historically taken place on an open patio or stoep. Cape Town winter rain can interrupt activities and make it difficult to give children the consistency they need.

A covered, wind-protected learning area would mean that reading, nourishment and connection can continue in all seasons. It would create a safer, more reliable place for children to concentrate and grow.

How you can help
